A D&D Beyond-like Fantasy Grounds mobile app for Android & iOS/iPad OS for viewing purchased digital contents and character sheets, maybe chat, basic dice rolling or more.
Not to sound negative, but if I could vote against something I would do that here.
Sure, an app would be nice, but to code something for another/several other platform(s) would take development resources away from the main program.
You are looking at optimizing it for both ipads, iphones, android phone and android tablets.
The main thing I'd be looking for is a way to access my digital content online whether through a website, or through an app. I'd love to be able to read the campaigns and books I own away from my computer. Even if it's just a simple image reader. The fancy stuff is all bonus.
Having an app and/or browser access to purchased material would be so incredibly helpful and me my top priority for such an app. If it were expanded, add viewing character sheets. If expanded more, allow mobile access to game play would be incredible (a big undertaking, but incredible for those who do not have a computer)
This is becoming a real problem for me. Having branched out into other games systems that I am not familiar with, finding time to read the rule sets, settings and game modules IN FRONT of the computer is next to impossible. Reading from my iPhone is now my default. Trying to convince others in my group to make the change to FGU is held back by those that toy with and read ideas while commuting etc.
The other way to achieve something like this would be for the publishers to adopt a system like Paizo and link to the content of theirs that is purchased through FGU and allow access to some other form of signed digital content. But is a very limited subset of the mobile uses that could be helpful if implemented.
I thought that this would be a "nice"thing to have, but not essential. My computer has died and I'm stuck with web access via phone and iPad. I can't read any of the content that I bought, except for my Paizo things.
At this point a lack of this is becoming a detriment since most other tools are online and accessible through a browser. I can not recommend this tool to people until we have other ways to access the data/tools than just a PC app.
Hear Hear!! This would REALLY help me get more time on my game to be able to read the reference information OUT OF FGU Client please.
It can be simple as can be, web based would be REALLY nice since nothing extra needs to be developed for each platform and the content doesn't need to be downloaded. I"LL PAY for the extra ability to do that!
& months on from my last comment and I thought I was drawing to a close on the last game I'm involved with on r20 is winding up and that group is discussing what to do next.
One Dm who owns FGU Unlimited was really enthused by the new Spelljammer release.
He's running it on r20.
Why because it integrates with Beyond and he can read and develop ideas on his mobile devices while he commutes.
Sure, the vehicle rules were essential, and yes the dices skins are pretty, but this lack of mobility is killing me.
Looking back through all the things that I've voted for ahead of this in the list - I now also think this is essential AND urgent.
This should have way more votes IMHO. The number of mobile devices vastly outpaces the number of desktops and laptops. Plus iPads take up so much less table space.
This would get so many more people into FGU and VTT gaming. Even if they're limited to editing character sheets and reading through modules. This is the future whether we like it or not.
